SEND at Maple
We are a Local Authority maintained pupil referral unit providing education for young people aged 7 to 16 years. Our PRU is 'one of a kind', providing support for a range pupils of varying needs including medical conditions; mental health needs; teenage pregnancy including a nursery facility; hospitalised children within DRI; and Autism
Pupils in Maple will have either an Education, health and care plan (EHCP); Care Plan; CAMHS Support Plan; IEP; or a SEN Support Plan. We prepare all our pupils for adulthood by ensuring outcomes are reviewed regularly with all stakeholders
Broad and balanced curriculum
The curriculum at Maple Medical PRU is based on the National Curriculum but at a level and pace that is appropriate to the needs of our pupils and is underpinned by recognition of the importance of other skills too, such as social skills, life skills, communication, enterprise, and independence
SEND Code of Practice
In the code of practice there are 4 areas of need:
- Communication and Interaction
- Cognition and learning
- Social emotional and mental health
- Sensory and physical
We aim to support all students in developing their area/s of need through our curriculum and personalised learning approaches
