Mental Health at Maple
At Maple we believe that all of our pupils and staff should strive for good mental health
What is good mental health?
Good mental health is characterised by a person's ability to fulfil a number of key functions and activities, including:
- The ability to learn
- The ability to feel, express and manage a range of positive and negative emotions
- The ability to form and maintain good relationships with others
We support pupils by teaching a good quality PSHE curriculum throughout school which has been written by our teaching staff inline with PSHE association SEND guidance. We work closely with many other professionals including the NHS and CAMHs services to support our pupils' wellbeing
We have a school focus on mental health and wellbeing and have termly staff wellbeing questionnaires and regular check in sessions with the pupils. We also do an annual parent questionnaire which asks about their child's happiness in school
We have spent our COVID catch up money on the outdoor areas of school including our fabulous new outdoor equipment, picnic benches and sensory garden. We have offered a range of mental health and wellbeing CPD opportunities to all our staff. We have many initiatives in school for pupils and staff including reward assemblies/celebrations and Random acts of Kindness for staff and pupils
