Careers at Maple Medical PRU

Here at Maple Medical PRU the careers programme is delivered mostly in careers lessons, which form part of the wider PSHE curriculum. Students will meet with post 16 education and training providers and employers within the planned curriculum each year, in every year group

The curriculum is planned to be progressive, building up the relevant skills and knowledge to enable the students to be able to make informed careers decisions and manage their own personal career beyond Maple for many years to come, being able to deal with the difficulties and obstacles that life provides

Where the opportunity naturally exists, careers within the curriculum is promoted by using contextualised resources and awareness raising

Impartial Careers Advice

At Maple Medical PRU we do not directly employ any Careers Information, Advice and Guidance staff to conduct Careers interviews with our students. All of the staff involved in the Careers interviews are all suitably qualified and experienced

Furthermore we do not have any Sixth Form provision, therefore we work with each student on an individual basis to find the right provider to progress onto once they have left Maple Medical PRU

Labour Market Information - 2/2/23

In our careers lessons, we have been discussing LMI (Labour Market Information), looking at where it can be found, what it means and how to use it

We aim for all students to leave Maple Medical PRU with the ability to manage their own career. To be able to do this, it is important that they understand LMI. It will widen their career options and also allow them to make informed decisions about their careers

This link explains LMI in more detail: Labour Market Information

We also have a Labour Market information tool, which can be used to look into industries and job roles to help pupils make an informed decision about future career decisions. This can be found by clicking on the 'Labour Market Info Resource' button on this page

National Careers Review - 2/2/23

There is currently a national review of careers provisions in schools and colleges across England, due to be concluded by July. Only 84 schools across England were selected to be involved in this review. Maple Medical PRU is one of these schools and the only school in Doncaster to have been involved

On Tuesday 21st March we will be having our careers provision and service reviewed. The findings of all of the reviews will be sent to the Department for Education and they will then look at the recommendations to make any necessary changes. These changes will be shared early next year with all education providers, with the aim to improve the careers provision nationwide

As part of this review, parents/carers will receive a text and an email with a link to complete a questionnaire. Once the review has taken place and we have the formal feedback, we will share the key findings and also how we intend to keep improving careers at Maple Medical PRU!
