Careers at Maple Medical PRU

Here at Maple Medical PRU the careers programme is delivered mostly in careers lessons, which form part of the wider PSHE curriculum. Students will meet with post 16 education and training providers and employers within the planned curriculum each year, in every year group

The curriculum is planned to be progressive, building up the relevant skills and knowledge to enable the students to be able to make informed careers decisions and manage their own personal career beyond Maple for many years to come, being able to deal with the difficulties and obstacles that life provides

More information about the careers programme for Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 can be found here

At Maple Medical PRU, we are committed to delivering a high-quality careers programme that supports our pupils' aspirations and future success. We regularly assess the impact of our careers education and guidance through a range of methods, including pupil questionnaires, parent and carer feedback, progression data, and quality assurance of all careers delivery. We also utilise the COMPASS+ benchmarking tool to evaluate our alignment with the Gatsby Benchmarks. Additional evaluation methods include staff feedback, destination tracking, and analysis of NEET (Not in Education, Employment or Training) figures. This approach ensures our careers provision remains responsive, inclusive, and effective in preparing pupils for their next steps

We will review this information on an annual basis, every September

Where the opportunity naturally exists, careers within the curriculum is promoted by using contextualised resources and awareness raising

As the provision with the Main and Nurtures parts of our school are different, we have Ellie Monk who is the careers leader responsible for both of those particular areas

Impartial Careers Advice

At Maple Medical PRU we use a variety of people to conduct careers guidance interviews. This may be the mainstream school which the pupil is on roll at, or the local authority or our own staff

All careers interviews are conducted with impartiality and confidentiality

Furthermore we do not have a Sixth form provision, therefore we work with each pupil on an individual basis to determine their preferences, needs and abilities to find the most suitable provider, to progress onto once they have left Maple Medical PRU

Labour Market Information

In our careers lessons, we have been discussing LMI (Labour Market Information), looking at where it can be found, what it means and how to use it

We aim for all students to leave Maple Medical PRU with the ability to manage their own career. To be able to do this, it is important that they understand LMI. It will widen their career options and also allow them to make informed decisions about their careers

This link explains LMI in more detail: Labour Market Information

We also have a Labour Market information tool, which can be used to look into industries and job roles to help pupils make an informed decision about future career decisions. This can be found by clicking on the 'Labour Market Info Resource' button on this page
